AI writing tools frequently output typographically correct but technically problematic whitespace: non-breaking spaces, narrow no-break spaces, thin spaces, and figure spaces that look identical to regular spaces but behave completely differently in code, databases, and search engines. This normalizer converts every non-standard whitespace codepoint to a safe ASCII space (U+0020) in one pass.

These characters are invisible, look like normal spaces, but cause real problems in downstream systems.
Non-breaking space
U+00A0 → spacePrevents line-breaks between words. AI tools insert these after titles, salutations, and before punctuation — breaking plain-text alignment and word counts.
Narrow no-break space
U+202F → spaceFrench-style spacing before colons and question marks. AI models trained on multilingual corpora inject this frequently even in English output.
Thin space
U+2009 → spaceUsed typographically around em dashes and in thousands separators. Causes failures in databases with byte-length constraints and in search indexing.
Figure space
U+2007 → spaceWidth matches a numeral. AI tools use this in tables and numbered lists, breaking plain-text column alignment.
How to normalize Unicode whitespace in 3 steps
- 1
Paste or upload
Paste AI-generated text, or upload a .txt or .docx file. The normalizer accepts up to 10 files.
- 2
Whitespace scan
Every non-standard Unicode whitespace codepoint is identified and mapped to a plain ASCII space in one fast browser-side pass.
- 3
Review & export
Diff view highlights every normalized codepoint. Copy the clean text or download the fixed file.

Frequently asked questions about Unicode Normalizer watermarks
- Why do AI tools produce non-breaking spaces instead of regular spaces?
- Language models are trained on web content and books where typographic whitespace is common. The model learns to reproduce typographically 'correct' spacing even when it creates technical problems in plain-text environments.
- Does this change visible text content?
- No. Every normalized codepoint is replaced with a visually equivalent ASCII space. The readable text is unchanged.
- Will this break my document formatting?
- In plain-text and code contexts, it will improve consistency. In rich-text documents, a few line-break behaviors may change where non-breaking spaces were enforcing specific wrapping — which is usually the desired outcome.
- Does this also remove zero-width characters?
- This tool focuses on whitespace normalization. For zero-width characters, use the Zero-Width Character Remover or the Universal AI Sanitizer which covers both invisible and whitespace artifacts.
- Is my content private?
- Yes. All normalization is performed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
